Farm Markets

Greyton’s Saturday Morning Market is renowned for its fresh, scrumptious fare and other close-to-nature products.

Every Saturday morning from 10h00 to 12h00 Greyton’s Market Square is abuzz with activity, where people flock to buy home-made and home-crafted goods. This is very much a Community Market with a variety of goods from Greyton and the villages of the Overberg. A visit to the market is the highlight of a visitor’s weekend, providing an abundance of food items for those in self-catering accommodation as well as an opportunity for a spontaneous picnic while passing the time of day with new friends! Greyton has a wealth of talented artists and crafters who display their diverse work each week without fail. The market is run by volunteers from the Greyton Conservation Society, each stallholder donating 10% of his or her takings to this worthy cause weekly.

The Kingwill’s Concordia Dairy Farm sells preservative-free cheeses in a wide range of flavours. Jon Manson sells his home-made low-fat yoghourt, labneh and farm butter, Ilse van Lingen’s biltong and wood-fired bread and Loret’s range of home-made pestos will more than solve those weekend catering problems. Samosas, roti and fresh doughnuts are on offer under the Genadendal Bakery gazebo and Greyton’s famous lemon products include everyone’s favourite pancakes stall where the queue is a social event and patience is rewarded with lemon curd or cinnamon fillings, fresh lemon ice cream and lemonade.

Lemon cordial is the speciality of Stella van Leeuwen who also stocks dried fruits. Arts and crafts abound, with Norma and Chiv’s watercolours, Norma’s hand-stitched bookmarks and Gill’s exquisite calligraphy cards for those very special occasions. Linda Klopper displays exotic decoupage gift ideas and delicious French onion soup in the winter. Join the throng in the social space and enjoy a coffee from the Conservation Coffee Stall and meet up with the locals.

There are the most delicious rusks, biscuits and koeksisters, freshly baked by Gertie Williams from Genadendal, Bottled fruits and veggies from Jon Matthee, Val Turner’s renowned marmalades and jams – Greyton market has it all! Ann-Marie Green’s hand-crafted hessian hats and bags, Jan Vorster’s wine-barrel creations, leather products from Caledon, and smudge sticks from The Blue Hippo Commune, not to mention Sandra’s fragrant essential oils, soaps and remedies.

Make a point of searching for the Hearts’ Design gazebo where Jimmy and Erna display gorgeous needlework creations and fabrics. There is a second-hand book stall and magazine back-numbers run by Greyton Red Cross and an Animal Welfare stall where you may find an abandoned pet to adopt, or stock up with pet treats for your own mutt back home. Seedlings (indigenous, perennials, herb and vegetable), heritage seeds, delicious olive oils and products. And let’s not forget our very own Dutch Stall – you cannot miss the converted motorhome flying the Dutch flag where Angora is a purveyor of Dutch specialities to take away, or you can plonk yourself down and chat to one of our most colourful characters!
